Support Worker Apprentice – Stars Children’s Care

Summary

You will be working with children, young people and families to achieve positive and sustainable changes in their lives. You will take the lead in developing and delivering the child’s placement plan and will work with the child to support their education, health, social and day to day needs.

 

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

 

What you'll do at work

• Daily Care: Provide direct care, support, and supervision to children and young people in line with their individual care plans.


• Wellbeing Support: Encourage and support healthy lifestyles, emotional resilience, and personal growth.


• Behaviour Management: Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to help young people manage challenges effectively.


• Activities Organisation: Plan and take part in educational, recreational, and therapeutic activities tailored to individual needs and interests.


• Advocacy: Build trusting relationships, act as a positive role model, and advocate for the best interests of the children and young people.


• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records, care plans, and logs in line with organisational policies and regulatory standards.


• Teamwork: Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to deliver holistic care and achieve positive outcomes.


• Training & Development: Participate fully in apprenticeship training, complete all required coursework, and attend scheduled learning sessions.


• Creating sustainable change in others by working alongside children, young people and families and being authentic, consistent, patient, persistent, and resilient.


• Implement a range of interventions to support the complex needs of children, young people and their families.


• Lead the implementation of holistic assessments and plans.


• Work in partnership with a range of professionals and services.


• Make effective decisions that are informed and based on ethical principles.


• Actively promote the rights, equality and inclusion of children and young people.


• Lead practices that support children and young people to stay safe, thrive and achieve positive outcomes.


• Take an active role in reflective practice and professional development.

Training schedule

Level 4 Children, Young People, and Families Practitioner

Apprentices will complete the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare – meeting regulation 32 of The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.

Apprentices may be required to have or achieve Level 2 English and Maths prior to completion of their apprenticeship

Workshops:

Workshops can be delivered face to face or online. They will be either in groups or 1-2-1 depending on workplace demands and schedules. Half day workshops will be delivered bi-monthly.

Requirements

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

• English (grade C/4 or above)


• Mathematics (grade C/4 or above)


• Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
