Our history
Performance Through People’s (PTP) roots were formed in the 1970s, when the Walsall Chamber of Commerce set up a training arm to deliver Engineering and Management training to its members. As the Chamber expanded over the years into the Black Country and Staffordshire, so did its training arm, becoming a one stop shop for employers and individuals in a range of different sectors.
Development
Performance Through People (Chamber Training) has a proud history rooted in the Chamber of Commerce movement, dating back to the late 1960’s. It was established in response to the needs of Chamber member companies seeking support with workforce development, upskilling, recruitment and the challenges presented by an ageing workforce.
As demand for training grew, the organisation expanded its reach beyond Walsall, leading to the creation of PTP Training Ltd as a trading company and wholly owned subsidiary of the Chamber. Over the years, the Chamber and PTP continued to grow their geographical reach across Staffordshire, the Black Country and the wider West Midlands.
Following a period under new ownership between 2020 and 2025, PTP Training returned to its Chamber roots by joining the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber Group. This acquisition brings together two established training providers, combining their experience, expertise and strong employer relationships to further strengthen the Group’s ability to support businesses, apprentices and learners across the UK.
PTP Training continues to operate under its established brand, with the same leadership team and an ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality training and development. For our staff, employers, apprentices and learners, it remains business as usual, while being part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber Group creates exciting new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and growth. Together, the organisations are building on their shared values, knowledge and expertise to create even greater opportunities for businesses, individuals and communities across Coventry, Warwickshire, the wider West Midlands and beyond.
A Strong Chamber Connection
Being part of a Chamber-led organisation is central to who we are. We believe that strong representation, collaboration and engagement with businesses, education providers and regional stakeholders are essential to understanding the needs of employers and the communities we serve. Our senior leaders actively contribute to a wide range of boards, committees and strategic partnerships, helping to shape skills, employment and economic development across the region. Through this strong network and our continued engagement with employers and stakeholders, we ensure that the voice of business remains at the heart of what we do — helping us deliver training and development that makes a genuine difference to people, businesses and the wider economy.
Representation
Representation has always been a key focus of PTP through its Chamber roots, and senior management of the business have chairs several local provider networks as well as representing the Sector in key areas such as Worldskills, Ofsted, LEP and Combined Authority committees over decades, and have driven key regional initiatives such as the Ladder for Apprenticeships.
