Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Purchase Ledger apprentice to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the purchase ledger function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices, reconciling statements, and assisting in the smooth operation of the accounts payable department.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What you'll do at work


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process a high volume of supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and correct coding

  • Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes

  • Obtain invoice approvals in line with company policy

  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner

  • Prepare and process supplier payment runs, including BACS and cheque payments

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of all purchase ledger transactions

  • Assist with month-end closing procedures including accruals and reporting

  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to resolve queries promptly

  • Maintain compliance with internal financial controls and procedures

  • Support audits by providing necessary documentation and information

Training


Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Training schedule


Your programme will be delivered at PTP’s Walsall centre, with the following structure:

  • Every two weeks, you will attend PTP’s Walsall centre

  • During these sessions, new topics will be taught by your tutor


AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting - Units

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping

  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls

  • Principles of Costing

  • The Business Environment

  • The module The Business Environment will be assessed as part of the EPA.


 

Requirements


Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade at grade 5/B and above)

  • Maths (grade at grade 5/B and above)
