Performance Through People is proud to celebrate the achievements of Jessica Hemmings, whose journey from learner to confident, skilled, and inspiring Dental Nurse perfectly captures the power of apprenticeships.

Jessica Hemmings at Apprenticeship Graduation

Jessica completed her Dental Nurse apprenticeship with us in 2024, guided and supported by her tutor, Amy Johnson. Reflecting on her experience, Jessica says:

I completed my Dental Nurse apprenticeship with PTP with Amy as a tutor, which might I add was one of the best courses I’ve ever completed. Amy was an amazing tutor. I passed at what I believe was around 95% for the exam.”

Since achieving her qualification, Jessica has flourished. She is now working in an outstanding practice in Uttoxeter, where strong support and excellent leadership have helped her continue to grow. Her passion for dentistry has only deepened. She has already taken the next step by training to become an Oral Health Educator, a role that allows her to share her knowledge with patients of all ages.

Not only is she educating patients one-to-one, but Jessica has also taken her enthusiasm into the community – visiting schools (often dressed as a tooth fairy!) and planning future sessions in care homes and prenatal classes. This work has boosted her confidence and allowed her to discover new ways to make a difference.

Jessica shares:

“The achievement of being a dental nurse brings me pride and joy, especially in my current work environment where all clinicians and nurses work as a team and there is a drive for improvement. I want to continue to move forward, increase my dentistry knowledge, and become a valued member of my practice – a dental nurse that everyone is happy to work with.”

Her tutor, Amy Johnson, couldn’t be prouder:

“Jess qualified in February 2024. When she started with me, she was an anxious and worrisome person, something she will openly admit. She was a fantastic learner but very low in self-esteem. After visiting her dental practice last week, her manager explained to me all of the things Jess has achieved since qualifying. She is the practice’s decontamination lead now, and is in the process of completing her Oral Health Advisor qualification. Last week, she was planning to deliver oral health advice in a school – something that two years ago I think would have been near impossible for Jess. She is the epitome of what an apprenticeship is all about: the opportunity to learn, become comfortable in skill, and use that as a foundation to achieve more.”

From a nervous beginner to a confident, proactive professional supporting patients across the community, Jessica’s journey is a shining example of the high-quality training and dedicated mentorship can have.

We are incredible proud of Jessica and excited to see how far her passion for dentistry will continue to take her.
