First Aid at Work
Introduction
People at work can suffer injuries or be taken ill. It doesn't matter whether the injury or illness is caused by the work they do or not, it is important to give them immediate attention and call an ambulance in serious cases. First aid at work covers the arrangements you should make to ensure this happens. It can save lives and prevent minor injuries becoming major ones.
For Whom
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require you to provide adequate and appropriate first-aid equipment, facilities and people so your employees can be given immediate help if they are injured or taken ill at work. The First Aid at Work course qualifies individuals to take responsibility for first aid in a working environment, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a variety of incidents and accidents.
What will I Learn?
This course provides individuals with the skills and knowledge in a range of areas providing them, and those they work with, with the confidence that they can handle any occurrences of ill health or accident. This course covers such subject areas as:
- Prioritising multiple casualties
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- The recovery position
- Wounds and bleeding
- Heart Attack
- Head Injuries
- Epilepsy and Diabetes
- Stroke
- Imbalance of heat
- Shock
- Poisoning
- Broken bones and Soft Tissue Injuries
- Choking
- Burns and Scalds
Following successful completion of this course attendees will be qualified First Aiders. The certificate is valid for 3 years before the end of which a first aid refresher course will be required.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but attendees should be aware that physical activity will be required.
How long will it take?
This course is run over 3 workshops, 1 workshop per week over a 3 week period.

Your health and safety tutor will be available throughout the course to provide advice, guidance and support to each delegate. Such advice can be gained during the workshops or via email or by phone when assistance is required outside of the training centre.

Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) – Managing Safely
Introduction
Managing safely is for managers and supervisors in any sector, and any organisation. It's designed to get managers up to speed on the practical actions they need to take to handle health and safety in their teams.
This course will inform you on the systems, methods and processes for supplying impartial information to your clients that will support them in taking decisions that could affect their own and others in the organisation.
For Whom
The course is designed for those who need to manage safely and effectively in compliance with the recently revised Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. The new legislation requires you to appoint a competent person to assist with health and safety responsibilities and your organisations health and safety policy. This person needs to be identified on the new Health and Safety poster.
What will I Learn?
This course will introduce the responsibilities that attendees have and prepare them to complete a risk assessment project relating to their own company, plus an overall course assessment test. Both of these are moderated by IOSH. The course will cover:
- Safety management systems, the role of risk assessment and how safety management links with other aspects of management, legal requirements and the social environment
- Reactive monitoring, including which incidents have to be reported, checking that reports are being made, recorded reported incidents, conducting investigations, recording results and analysing records
- Risk assessment and risk control, including making an inventory of sources of hazards, identifying hazards associated with each source, rating risks, selecting workplace precautions and recording results of risk assessment and reviews
- Preparing and using active monitoring checklists, implementing schedules for active monitoring, recording results and analysing records
- Safety policy, organising and conducting a management review of the safety management system and preparing for a health and safety audit
- Identifying relevant legislation and obtaining advice and advice on compliance
- Managing the sources of hazards
Following successful completion of this course individuals will recieve their qualification certificate from the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
How long will it take?
This course is run over 4 workshops, 1 workshop per week over a 4 week period.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but due to the level of responsibility this course requires, attendance of a senior member of the business is expected.

Forklift Truck Training
Introduction
This course is designed to ensure those persons using fork lift trucks understand and implement the procedures required to ensure safe use of forklift trucks.
For Whom
The training is required by law so that all employees operating Fork Lift Trucks are competent and are tested to the required level, so reducing damage and increasing site safety. This course will give delegates the basic knowledge and experience in Fork Lift Truck driving, to R. T. I. T. B. standards as required by the H. A. S. A. W. Act 1974
What will I Learn?
This course provides individuals with skills and knowledge of using a fork lift truck safely and in line with industry standards. This course will cover
- Awareness of employees / employers duties under the H.A.S.A.W. Act 1974
- Awareness of the Approved Code of Practice - Status; Legislation; Scope
- Awareness of Operators' Safety Code
- Negotiating left & right hand 90 degree turns forward and reverse, in close confines
- Carrying out daily pre start checksAssessing weight and correct method of moving loads
- Picking up, carrying & depositing loads at low level, eye level and high level
- Passing practical driving testPassing written theory exam
Following successful completion of this course, individuals will be qualified for 3 years. Before this expires a refresher course will need to be completed to continue certification.
