Supporting the Governments agenda to increase the number of apprentices being employed, Performance Through People held an employer breakfast event on the Friday 23rd March to share with employers the business benefits of taking on a young person. Business leaders throughout the West Midlands attended to hear of the financial support now available to small and medium sized enterprises and hear the real life experience of a real apprentice and from a local business man as to his experience of employing one.
The enthusiasm and success that apprentices can bring to business was perfectly presented by Ruth Badger, a guest speaker at the event for the second year running. Ruth shared her experiences of starting her career on a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) , her time on ‘The Apprentice’ and how employing apprentices in her businesses has supported her business success as well as job satisfaction. Ruth demonstrated how passionate she was about Apprenticeships as well as the Midlands having been raised in Wolverhampton. “I employ 3 apprentices a year to support my businesses and many have become integral to our success. I believe in apprenticeships and hope that i am a good example of what can be achieved when someone gives you a chance and supports your personal growth”.
Patrick Newland, Managing Director, of Relko Ltd also talked about the benefits of apprenticeships to his business, “i first thought apprenticeships were a load of old twoddle, then after being convinced otherwise and employing an apprentice, I now support them and Performance Through People whole heartedly. The event was informative and fun much like many apprentices find their programme of study and hopefully this event has raised the question to many local business leaders of; What can apprenticeships do for your business?
