Advanced Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing
For Whom
This particular qualification was developed to provide valuable accreditation of skills and knowledge in Dental Nursing in association with the Sector Skills Council for Health (SfH) who were responsible for developing the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and it is based upon the curriculum set by the General Dental Council.
How is the apprenticeship structured?
To successfully achieve this Apprenticeship the following components must be completed:
- Occupation based qualification in Dental Nursing Level 3 (including examinations)
- Transferrable Skills in Math & English (if applicable)
- Extended Award in Work Skills Level 3
- Attendance of a workshop at one of our training centres is also required
These components create the framework for the Apprenticeship, for each component you will receive continual support from your training adviser.
What will I Learn?
The Level 3 Diploma in Nursing focuses on direct chairside work and support during a range of dental treatments. You will need to have considerable knowledge and skills in relation to dental equipment, instruments and materials and be able to work as a key member of the oral healthcare team.
It has been built on a number of principles: encourage access by those groups of staff for whom they are designed: promote good quality practice and high quality services: help the sector respond to changing requirements: encourage transfer and progression and being consistent with future legislation for statutory registration.

Entry Requirements
There are no minimum levels of previous qualifications required. It may be necessary to undertake an assessment to identify your current levels in Maths, English and ICT.
How long will it take?
It will take a maximum of 18 month
What Support Will I Receive?
You will be appointed a Training Adviser whose role it is to guide you through your programme by providing one to one, tuition and supporting you in your workplace. Regular Review Meetings will take place with you and your direct line manager so that we can ensure you are receiving the kind of development, motivation and well being that you need to have to help you achieve your nationally recognised qualification.
