Performance Through People

Our History

The origins of Performance Through People (PTP) start in the 1970's when the then Walsall Chamber of Commerce received requests from its members for support in training and development, primarily for the engineering and manufacturing industry.

This took the form of a large engineering centre in Sandwell being opened to meet these demands. There was further expansion in the following years, delivering training in a range of occupational areas throughout Sandwell and the wider Black Country area.

In 1995, PTP formed into a separate division within the re-organised Chamber of Commerce (Walsall, Cannock, Lichfield, Tamworth and Burton CC&I) East Mercia Chamber of Commerce, which enabled further expansion within Staffordshire in conjunction with Staffordshire TEC. This was alongside business growth within the Black Country, opening new centres in Dudley and Wolverhampton. With the introduction of the LSC –the Chamber followed suit; breaking up East Mercia Chamber so Walsall could join the Black Country Chamber and a new Chamber formed looking after business needs in Southern Staffordshire. From this change, a holding company was formed called EMCCI of which PTP are a major part.

In 2003 PTP Training Ltd known as Performance Through People was formed into a separate trading company, as a wholly owned subsidiary of the newly named, Chamber Membership Services. The shareholding of PTP Training Ltd was then owned by the trustees of Walsall Chamber of Commerce and by Southern Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce. In 2009 Southern Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce's shareholding in CMS was bought out by Walsall Chamber of Commerce.

PTP is now one of the leading training providers in the West Midlands and has 5 centres throughout Birmingham, Black Country and Staffordshire. More than 100 people are employed by PTP.
